Striking a Balance: Understanding Pain Management and Opioids
Omni Hotel
August 8, 2024
8:30 – 11 am ET
Louisville, KY
Presented by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, a member of the CO*RE Collaborative, nine interdisciplinary organizations working together to improve pain management and prevent adverse outcomes.
The CO*RE 2023-2024 curriculum, developed by nationally known experts in pain management, addiction, and opioids, thoughtfully balances the risks and benefits of opioid prescribing, providing the latest insights in this vital healthcare area. It covers many important topics, including understanding the nature and pathophysiology of pain, effective patient assessment, creating patient-centered pain treatment plans, non-pharmaceutical pain treatment options, managing patients on opioid analgesics, educating patients and caregivers, and addressing opioid use disorder.
This program meets many states’ requirements for opioid education and is fully compliant with the Opioid Analgesic Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) education requirement (“Blueprint”: FDA Education Blueprint for Health Care Providers Involved in the Treatment and Monitoring of Patients with Pain | October 2023), issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. As of June 27, 2023, DEA registrants are to have completed a total of at least 8 hours of training on opioid or other substance use disorders. This activity meets the criteria outlined by SAMHSA to count toward this training requirement.
Content is focused on the ability to make appropriate diagnostic and clinical decisions surrounding pain management and opioid use that have important consequences for patients and families experiencing serious and complex illnesses.
This course is planned for in-person attendance. The course will be recorded and planned to be released to registered attendees when available from the post-recording production team.
