Fall Call for Case Studies and Scholarly Works In-Progress Abstracts for Early Career and Professionals in Training
This call closed on October 13, 2022.
Proposals submitted during this call are for the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care which will take place March 22-25, 2023 in Montréal, Canada. This call is open specifically to professionals in training or early career hospice and palliative care professionals.
- Early Career Professionals (ECP) are defined as someone that has completed up to 5 years of post-training.
- Professionals in Training (PIT) are defined as someone currently engaged in a formal education/training program.
About the Call
Annual Assembly is presented in an omnichannel format, creating an engaging educational experience for every attendee designed to meet the unique needs of each participant resulting in the enhanced delivery and quality of hospice and palliative care provided to patients and families.
This call was formerly known as the call for case study papers and posters and scholar e-posters and was created to give early career professionals and professionals in training the platform to present their work at a national level. This 2023 Fall Call for Abstracts collects case studies and scholarly studies/research in-progress in the form of 15-minute podium presentations or poster presentations.
- Results are not required to be eligible for Fall Call for Abstracts.
- Scholars (professionals in training) are no longer limited to poster presentations only. Scholarly works-in-progress are invited to be submitted as 15-podium podium presentations or poster presentations.
- Case studies may be submitted as 15-minute podium presentations or poster presentations.
- If your submission is not accepted as a 15-minute podium presentation it will be considered as a poster presentation.
- The presenter and lead author must be an early career professional or professional in training, though more senior co-authors may be included in the submission.
If your submission was declined during the summer call and you are an early career professional or professional in training, you are eligible to re-submit your abstract to this call.
Abstract Submission Options
- Present a 15-minute live in-person session
- In addition, the presenting faculty is expected to submit a self-recording session prior to conference start for release into the virtual platform for on-demand viewing.
- Presenters are required to register for the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care.
- Faculty are encouraged to engage with both live and virtual attendees via networking channels.
- There is a limit of three abstracts per submitter.
- Present a digital poster in person
- At least one early career/professional in training author per submitted poster is expected to participate in the faculty attended poster sessions in person to be determined and shared in your faculty portal upon acceptance as the schedule develops, as a condition of acceptance, and be registered to attend the 2023 Annual Assembly.
- Faculty are encouraged to engage with both live and virtual attendees via networking channels.
- Poster Size: Electronic submissions only. If selected, presenting author is required to provide an electronic file of the poster for the virtual poster hall. Details of poster electronic requirements will be provided upon acceptance.
- There is a limit of three posters per submitter.

Important Abstract Submission Information
- There can be a max of 8 authors for both a 15-minute podium presentation and poster presentation submission.
- The max number of abstracts allowed per submitter is 3.
- Disclosure forms must be collected for all authors included on the abstract.
- There will be an option to select which authors will be presenting on the submission form.
Annual Assembly Desired Outcomes
Through interdisciplinary team collaboration and integrated enactment, our Annual Assembly desired outcome is to enhance the learners’ knowledge/skills/strategy or performance to increase competency, influence behaviors, and/or improve patient outcomes in hospice and palliative care.

In support of this commitment, submitted abstracts are to address the impact of the proposed topic or research on underrepresented and underserved populations to better equip hospice and palliative care professionals with knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive person-centered care. You are asked to address issues of cultural humility and sensitivity in your abstract, case examples, and, where applicable, describe how issues of cultural diversity and inclusion are considered in the specific aims or session narrative of your proposed content.
Please note: Minor adjustments to titles may be made if your abstract is accepted. Changes reflect AAHPM and HPNA’s commitment to an inclusive and welcoming learning environment that embraces diverse perspectives, cultures, and maximizes positive impact through evidence-based programming. Title updates will be reflected in the faculty portal and you will be notified of any changes upon acceptance.
Submission Instructions
To get started, download the 2023 Abstract Submission Guide to work with your colleagues before entering the information to the electronic submissions system. Hard copy proposals will not be accepted.
All information requested on the electronic submission form were due by October 13, 2022, at 11:59pm PT.
Abstract Submission Fee: There is a $40 non-refundable abstract processing fee for submission of each abstract for peer review to be paid upon completion. This includes a $1 credit card transaction fee for a total of $41 to be charged to the credit card used. Please complete the attestation in the online submission form when submitting your abstract.
Once you have completed all forms, paid the fee, and clicked “Submit” via the electronic submission system, the abstract will automatically be sent to the AAHPM office.

Review and Notifications
Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Annual Assembly Planning Committee based on the review criteria.
Abstracts will enter the review process in late October 2022.
Notification of abstract status will be sent via email in winter 2022 to the submitting author listed on the abstract.
Registration
If your abstract is accepted, all presenting faculty must register for the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care.
