Early Career Professionals Call for Abstracts

Abstracts submitted through the Early Career and Professionals in Training Call for Abstracts are for the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care which will take place March 4-7, 2026 in San Diego, CA.
About the Call
This call provides a platform for emerging voices in hospice and palliative care. This call is designed to showcase case studies and works in progress from:
- Early Career Professionals: within 5 years of completing formal training
- Professionals in Training: currently enrolled in a formal education or training program
- Open to all disciplines, including medicine, nursing, social work, pharmacy, chaplaincy, psychology, and more
Accepted abstracts will be considered for:
- 15-minute podium (oral) presentations
- Poster presentations (with both physical and digital components)
Who Should Submit?
Any of the below who are advancing hospice and palliative care through scholarship, case studies, and applied research.
- Fellows
- Recent Graduates
- Residents
- Trainees
All accepted abstracts will be presented in-person at the 2026 Annual Assembly in San Diego, with select work published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (JPSM).
Abstract Submission Format
Presentation expectations:
- Presenting authors must register and attend the Assembly in person.
- Posters must be displayed physically in the Poster Hall and accompanied by a 2-minute pre-recorded overview for on-demand access.
- At least one author per accepted poster must participate in the live faculty-attended poster session.
- Authors are encouraged to engage with both in-person and virtual attendees.
The Planning Committee will determine the final presentation format based on reviewer scores, program needs, and conflict-of-interest mitigation.
Cross-cutting themes:
Abstracts are encouraged to incorporate one or more of the following themes, which shape the structure of the Annual Assembly program:
- Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI): addressing issues of diversity and representation, particularly for historically marginalized or minoritized populations.
- Interprofessional and Multidisciplinary Collaboration: highlighting collaborative approaches across disciplines that impact practice, team-based care, or interprofessional learning and development.
Abstract Submission Fee: There is a $44 non-refundable abstract processing fee for submission of individual abstracts for peer review, to be paid upon submission completion. A $1.00 credit card transaction fee will also apply, bringing the total charge to $45 per abstract, payable via the credit card used at the time of submission.
Submission Timeline
- Call Opens: Thursday, September 25
- Call Closes: Monday, October 13 at 11:59pm PT
- Call Reviewers: Friday, October 17 – Monday, November 3
- Notifications: Week of November 24

Registration and Participation Agreement Acknowledgment
If your abstract is accepted, all presenting faculty must register and pay the fee for the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care and cover their own expenses.
Presenting faculty are expected to present live in person in San Diego, CA during the scheduled presentation time assigned by the planning committee at the time of acceptance notification.
Faculty and presenters are highly encouraged to participate in end-of-day Homerooms Sessions to engage with learners and colleagues in reflective discussions surrounding key learning points for practice application as well as provide feedback to individual learners and the group on your session outcomes.
Presenting faculty must prepare and submit an accessible self-recording of their session(s) before the opening of the Annual Assembly for on-demand access to all registrants. The presentation recordings submitted are to adhere to best practices in accessibility to ensure content is inclusive to all learners, including people with disabilities.
