AAHPM and HPNA invite experienced professionals in hospice and palliative care to serve as a Summer Call for Abstract Reviewer for the 2027 Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care.
As a reviewer, you will help identify high-quality research and innovative care practices that shape the future of the field and inform this leading national conference.

Application Period
- Opens: June 15, 2026
- Closes: June 29, 2026 (11:59 PM PT)
Abstract Review Period
- Opens: July 13, 2026
- Closes: August 3, 2026
Time Commitment: Approximately 3–4 hours total to review 20–30 abstracts. Please ensure availability during the full review period before applying.

Abstract reviewers evaluate submissions across key topic areas in hospice and palliative care:

- Symptom Assessment and Management
Reviewer Preferences: Applicants may select up to three preferred tracks aligned with their expertise.
Note: The Scientific Research track requires demonstrated research experience to ensure rigorous and appropriate evaluation.
Review Process and Integrity
All submissions are evaluated through a double-blind review process, ensuring fairness and impartiality:
- Reviewer and author identities remain confidential
- Institutional affiliations are not disclosed
- Standardized criteria guide all evaluations
Roles and Responsibilities
Reviewers will evaluate podium and poster abstract submissions.
- Review assigned abstracts within the designated timeframe
- Provide objective scores and constructive feedback
- Apply a standardized rubric assessing:
- Clarity
- Relevance
- Innovation
- Rigor
- Practical application
- Evaluate assigned abstracts (typically 20–30)
- Submit all reviews by the stated deadline to support timely selection
- Scientific abstracts are reviewed by individuals with research expertise
- Focus is placed on methodological rigor and scholarly quality
Preconference Workshop submissions are reviewed separately by the Annual Assembly Planning Committee
Eligibility and Qualifications
To serve as an abstract reviewer, applicants should have:
- Professional experience in hospice and/or palliative care
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical practice, education, leadership, or research
- A current curriculum vitae (CV) for verification
Membership in AAHPM or HPNA is not required. We welcome applications from all qualified professionals.
