Call for Abstract Reviewers

This call will open Monday, June 16

AAHPM and HPNA invite you to lend your expertise as a reviewer for the Principal Call for Podium Abstracts for the 2026 Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care. Your insights are vital in shaping a high-quality, evidence-informed educational program for the annual conference.

Qualifications

Membership in AAHPM or HPNA is no longer a prerequisite for applying to become a reviewer. To ensure a fair, rigorous, and informed review process, reviewers should meet the following:

  • Professional experience in hospice and palliative care with relevant clinical, educational, program development, or leadership expertise
  • Ability to evaluate abstracts objectively using defined scoring criteria
  • Commitment to uphold fairness, confidentiality, and constructive feedback
  • Prior experience with abstract or peer review, educational program planning, or QI initiatives
  • Familiarity with key content areas: symptom management, education, leadership/program development, hospice practice, pediatrics, innovations
  • Open to a range of professionals, e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists, physician associates, researchers, educators, program directors, administrators

Reviewer Expectations

  • Complete a conflict-of-interest disclosure form to support fair and balanced educational content
  • Choose your preferred abstract review category based on your background and expertise (Hospice, Peds, Leadership/Program Development, Innovations, Education, Symptoms Assessment and Management)
  • Access the online abstract review portal, with clear scoring criteria, definitions, and instructions
  • For outlier scores, provide brief, constructive comments to assist the committee in final decisions. Comments may be shared confidentially with authors upon request.
  • Reviewers will be notified of application outcome the first week in July

  • Review Period: July 19- August 25
  • Assignment: ~15 abstracts per reviewer
  • Estimated Time: 3-5 hours total
