Finucane A, Canny A, Mair APA, et al. A rapid review of the evidence for online interventions for bereavement support. Palliat Med. 2025;39(1):31-52. doi:10.1177/02692163241285101.

Despite grief being a natural process, it is estimated that about 40% of bereaved would benefit from support. For this article, the authors screened 2,050 articles and included four systematic reviews and 35 individual studies. Online bereavement support was feasible and effective in reducing grief intensity, stress-related outcomes, and depression. Participant retention was more than 70%. Positive impacts included access to supportive community, reduced isolation, opportunities to process the feelings, access to coping advice, and opportunities for meaning making. Negative impacts included feeling upset due to intense comments from others via unmoderated online forum.
