Annual Assembly
The Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care is the premier educational event for all hospice and palliative care professionals. It brings together experts, experienced professionals, and those new to the field to work together on improving patient and family care for those with serious illnesses. This conference is organized by a variety of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers, as well as students and professionals in training.
State of the Science
The State of the Science in Hospice and Palliative Care aims to advance the field by fostering community involvement and collaboration among various disciplines. It focuses on enhancing research capabilities by aiding the growth of researchers and sharing groundbreaking studies from scientists at different career stages. Participants will have the chance to connect with leading researchers about the latest developments in the field, network with the scientific community to promote interdisciplinary partnerships, learn about modern research designs and methods, and engage in development activities suited for researchers at every career level.
This research symposium takes place biennially, with the next State of the Science scheduled for 2025 in San Diego.
Intensive Review Course
The Intensive Review Course is designed to facilitate a framework for physicians and advance practice providers to prepare for board certification. This course is further intended to advance the knowledge, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical judgment skills, attitudes, and strategies of physicians and advanced practice providers in hospice and palliative medicine.
This course is offered every other year, specifically on even-numbered years.
Hospice Super Forum
The Hospice Super Forum, organized by AAHPM and HMDCB, takes place in the fall as a half-day virtual event. It will cover important topics in hospice medicine, such as ethical dilemmas, deprescribing practices, and managing complex symptoms in hospice patients.
Participants will learn a foundational approach to ethical decision-making in end-of-life care, develop critical thinking skills for evaluating medication use in serious illnesses, and explore both medication and non-medication strategies for addressing challenging symptoms. Each session will feature a Q&A with the presenters and a chance to network with fellow attendees.

Grand Round Lecture Series
The quarterly Grand Round Lecture Series aims to offer early and mid-career professionals from various environments the opportunity to engage with esteemed figures in the hospice and palliative care sector. Grand Rounds are free to members of the Academy.
