    Education Grants for HPM Fellowships

    Advancing Fellowship Training Through Philanthropic Support

    AAHPM strengthens the future of hospice and palliative medicine by supporting fellowship training programs through philanthropic education grants. These investments expand access to high‑quality training, develop future leaders in the field, and improve care for patients and families.

    In recent years, AAHPM has received generous grant funding from leading foundations to support hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs across the United States.

    Y.C. Ho and Helen and Michael Chiang Foundation Fellowship Grant

    The Y.C. Ho and Helen and Michael Chiang Foundation Fellowship Grant supports fellowship programs that prepare physicians for specialized practice in pediatric hospice and palliative medicine.

    Since 2014, the Foundation has awarded AAHPM multiple grants, including $90,000 awards in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022, and a $100,000 award in 2025.

    These funds help support:

    • Adult hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs with a pediatric track
    • Pediatric hospice and palliative medicine fellowship programs

    One award of $45,000 will be presented for the 2026-2027 academic year with the opportunity to renew for one additional year following an evaluation.

    Foundation Support and Acknowledgments

    AAHPM gratefully acknowledges the foundations whose investments have advanced hospice and palliative medicine education and workforce development.

    A $20,000 grant supports the Next Gen Scholars for Equity in Hospice and Palliative Medicine program, which sponsors post‑graduate medical residents from communities underrepresented in the workforce.

    A $445,000 grant supported New York City‑based fellowship programs focused on caring for aging populations.

    A $1.2 million grant helped fund fellowship training programs and supported physicians who go on to serve as mentors, educators, and leaders in the field.

    A $300,000 grant supported fellowship programs with a strong hospice and home health focus, preparing physicians for hospice care delivery.

    AAHPM thanks the Gentiva, Ho and Chiang, Samuels, and Hearst Foundations for their continued commitment to advancing the field.
