- What inspired you to apply for the Leadership Scholars Program?
I applied to the Leadership Scholars Program to intentionally strengthen my leadership skills within a supportive environment while expanding my perspective. The program created space for creative opportunities for growth and a way to hold myself accountable for personal development amidst the constant pulls of daily work. I was inspired by the chance to learn from leaders who have been catalysts for meaningful change. I also wanted to push myself beyond my comfort zone and step into roles I might not have otherwise envisioned. - Can you share a memorable moment or experience from your time in the program?
Recently, I was meeting with colleagues and leaders from another major organization within hospice and palliative medicine. In that moment, I realized how much this program has shifted the way I show up. I felt genuinely empowered to engage in a meaningful, forward-looking conversation—one that I believe can foster collaboration for years to come. The Leadership Scholars Program has not only given me confidence in my skills but also broadened my knowledge of the field and sharpened my ability to listen deeply, frame ideas constructively, and identify areas of shared purpose. Those tools allowed us to reach a place of mutual success in our discussion. - How did receiving the scholarship change or shape your leadership journey?
Receiving the scholarship gave me the freedom and confidence to fully engage in leadership opportunities without the burden of financial stress. It affirmed that others believed in my potential and were willing to invest in my growth, which was incredibly motivating. This support encouraged me to take risks, step into leadership roles, and pursue projects that I might have hesitated to take on otherwise. It also reinforced my commitment to giving back and supporting others in their journeys. - Did the program connect you with people or mentors who made a lasting impact?
Absolutely, the program helped me connect with mentors who continue to guide and inspire me today. I have loved learning from people who have navigated very different paths—professionally, personally, and within leadership—and seeing firsthand that there is no single “right” way to grow or lead. Their wisdom, encouragement, and openness in sharing both successes and challenges have given me invaluable insight, reminding me that meaningful progress often comes through a non-linear journey. These mentors have helped me see possibilities I might not have imagined and have reinforced the importance of embracing flexibility, curiosity, and resilience in my own leadership path. - How are you using what you learned in your work or community today?
I use what I have explored and learned every day—drawing on stronger communication, teamwork, and resilience in my work. The program also gave me the confidence and courage to step into new opportunities and lead with empathy and integrity, even when it feels difficult. In my community, I carry this forward by mentoring others, taking initiative on projects, and fostering collaboration. - What advice or words of encouragement would you give to someone who is considering applying?
I would encourage anyone considering the program to go for it wholeheartedly. It’s a chance not only to develop leadership skills, but also to discover more about yourself and the impact you can have. Don’t worry about being “perfect” or having everything figured out—the program is about growth, and you’ll be supported every step of the way. Take the leap, and you’ll find the experience to be deeply rewarding.
